“Morning, sleepyhead.”
I looked up from the coffee machine as Amelia walked into the kitchen, still rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
Her long hair was a mess, and she was wearing one of my oversized T-shirts that nearly reached her knees.
She smiled.
“You woke up early.”
“Couldn’t sleep,” I replied, handing her a cup of coffee.
She kissed my cheek without saying another word.
After seven years together, she still did little things that made me fall in love with her all over again.
Some people spend their whole lives searching for someone like Amelia.
I got lucky.
College brought us together.
Life kept us together.
Two beautiful children made us a family.
Yet every time I looked into her eyes…
…I felt guilty.
Because there was one part of me she had never seen.
One secret I kept locked away where no one could find it.
Not even her.
“You’re staring again,” she laughed.
“Am I?”
“Yes.”
“Can you blame me?”
She rolled her eyes playfully.
“You’re impossible, Daniel.”
Maybe I was.
Because while she believed she knew everything about the man she married…
I knew there was one truth I was terrified would change the way she looked at me forever.
